Sustaining Cultural Heritage: Project-Based Learning Units on the Work of World Monuments Fund
World Savvy worked with World Monuments Fund (WMF), the leading independent organization devoted to saving cultural-heritage sites across the world, to create “Sustaining Cultural Heritage: Project-Based Learning Units on the Work of World Monuments Fund,” a new cultural heritage education series for middle- and high-school students. The interdisciplinary curriculum integrates WMF’s conservation initiatives and World Savvy’s existing youth engagement programming devoted to sustainable communities. Each unit is based on a WMF program or project. These comprise places included in the World Monuments Watch, an international advocacy campaign for heritage sites at risk, as well as conservation sites in the Forbidden City, in Beijing, China; New Gourna, in Luxor, Egypt; and Andahuaylillas, in Peru. Through these projects, students explore a range of subjects, including geography, history, mathematics, and science.
