Asian Art Museum: Shanghai Exhibit

The latest exhibit at the Asian Art Museum will explore the arts and culture of one of China’s most dynamic and cosmopolitan cities: Shanghai. The exhibit will feature paintings, posters, movie clips, and more tracing the history of Shanghai from 1850 to the present day. Exhibit is up from February 12 through September 5, 2010. http://www.asianart.org/.

San Francisco International Film Festival: Schools at the Festival

Elementary, middle and high school groups are invited to attend specially selected weekday matinee screenings at the Festival, and filmmakers whose work is being shown at the Festival will visit classrooms to discuss their films directly with students. Tickets for all public school classes are now only $1.00 each. All other Schools at the Festival tickets are still just $2.50 each. Tickets for the program are available exclusively to Bay Area educators and students and may be purchased only through the Youth Education Program office (contact Keith Zwšlfer at 415.561.5040, kzwolfer@sffs.org).

Teacher Workshop: Eastern Europe; Saturday, April 24, 2010

The Institute of Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies is pleased to invite you to a one-day conference examining the events of 1989-1990 in Eastern Europe. Open to the general public, this conference should be of particular interest to teachers of social studies, geography, world history and foreign languages. Change-makers Panel Discussion, April 20, 7 PM

The World Affairs Council of Northern California and Round Square Americas Regional Conference present: “Our World Tomorrow” Panel Discussion and Reception. Engage with a panel of young change-makers and meet other involved students from Round Square Schools in six countries from North America, South America and Australia. Confirmed Panelists:

Summer Program for High School Students Interested in Medical Careers

The summer programs are open to any high school student, ages 15 and older, who is interested in learning about medicine, medical school, or nursing. The program seeks applicants who are highly motivated, responsible, and genuinely interested in learning what it is like to be a physician or nurse. The summer programs are designed to provide students with exciting, hands-on and educational opportunities that relate to the practice of medicine/nursing. Children’s Hospital Oakland staff, clinicians, and local experts lead workshops. Application deadline is April 5, 2010. For more information, click here.

Save the Date: SF Unity Youth Eco-fest: May 22, 2010

This annual event is a FUN completely youth-led green event targeting urban youth and youth of color throughout the Bay Area, to spread awareness of climate change and environmental justice. The event helps get youth involved through art, music, and a resource fair, encouraging youth to take action and become leaders in their communities.
