WAC - Program Description
The World Affairs Challenge™ is an innovative academic program and competition that focuses on an annual global theme. This year’s theme is Global Health.
- The World Affairs Challenge™ ties global awareness to CA content standards and is a fun way for students to learn about current world issues
- Challenge teams can be formed around an in-class project linked to the curriculum or as an extracurricular activity
- Students gain skills in research, public speaking and collaborative work
- Students with a variety of skills and backgrounds can participate and succeed in this program
- World Savvy provides various levels of support for teachers to make participation possible and rewarding
The 6th Annual World Affairs Challenge™ will be held on March 15th, 2008 at San Francisco State University. Over 500 students will compete with teams from 30 Bay Area schools, each presenting a creative project on various topics related to the theme of Global Health.
As a World Affairs Challenge™ Coach, you would:
- Lead a team or teams of up to 12 students (World Savvy will present the Challenge to your class to motivate and recruit students)
- Facilitate team meetings in or out of class, and supervise research and Challenge preparation for 8-12 weeks
- Join your students on Challenge Day in March and watch them shine!
For more information on the World Affairs Challenge™ program:

The World Affairs Challenge™ program was developed by Center for Teaching International Relations at the University of Denver 16 years ago, and World Savvy introduced the program in San Francisco in 2003. In San Francisco alone, the program has served over 1300 students and continues to grow!
