2008 World Affairs Challenge - Opening Ceremony
At this year’s Opening Ceremonies, we hosted 1,000 people! We were honored to present Dean Jacob Perea of San Francisco State University’s College of Education with the 1st annual Global Educators Award. We also welcomed Megan Miller or Senator Barbara Boxer’s office, who presented us with a letter of support from the Senator. Finally, we were very excited to have our Keynote Speaker, Sarah Shannon, Executive Director of the Hesperian Foundation, share her experiences and perspectives on Global Health. The Opening Ceremonies were an inspiring and exciting way to start off the 2008 World Affairs Challenge!
2008 World Affairs Challenge - Challenge Day
The 2008 World Affairs Challenge took place on Saturday, March 15 at San Francisco State University . World Savvy hosted about 500 students from 26 Bay Area middle and high schools! Nearly 500 Coaches, teachers, parents, volunteers and community members came out to see the students in action. Some adults even tested their own global awareness by taking the same Global Awareness Quiz as students!
2008 World Affairs Challenge - Discovery Poster
The Discovery Poster is a fun and creative part of the World Affairs Challenge. Although it is optional, most participating schools entered a poster in this year’s competition. The posters were both visually appealing and quite informative. They are a great opportunity for teams to recap their Formal Presentation and show off all the hard work they have put into the World Affairs Challenge!
2008 World Affairs Challenge - Formal Presentation
The Formal Presentation is the biggest and most popular component of the World Affairs Challenge. Every team participates in this event, presenting their research and solution to a panel of judges. Students get creative with the format they use to present so that it best highlights their information, skills, and talents. Look at the pictures below to see the many formats team chose, from song and dance to TV show to trial!
2008 World Affairs Challenge - Closing Ceremony
The Closing Ceremony acknowledged all of the hard working and dedicated students and coaches who prepared up to three months in advance for Challenge Day. Awards were presented for a number of individual and team categories, finishing the day on a high note, with plenty of exuberance and satisfaction of a successful day all around!
