MAP - Description

With World Savvy's Global Youth Media and Arts Program (MAP) youth explore international issues through a creative lens. World Savvy partners with more than 20 local schools and arts organizations each year to help educators and youth integrate global issues into their work. Through the MAP, young artists (age 10-18) learn about relevant community and world affairs and create original works of art and media to express their perspectives. The works created during the MAP are presented at the Global Youth Media and Arts Festival, a public visual and performing arts showcase.

HOW IT WORKS:

World Savvy works with media and arts educators to integrate global issues into their curriculum;
Educators are provided with:

  • An Immigration and Identity Collaborator's Guide containing lesson plans, activities, artists and resources
  • A Professional Development Institute focused on Immigration and Identity
  • Face to face consulting with World Savvy program staff, to support the integration of global issues into the classroom
  • Ongoing curriculum support to access lessons, resources, community connections, art and media around the theme of Immigration and Identity
  • 4 on-site workshops or community field-trips focused on the global theme
  • Opportunities for participating youth to come together and learn about the theme, share ideas, create collaborative projects, build community between schools/neighborhoods, and interact with professional artists
  • The Global Youth Media and Arts Festival: a professional art exhibition and performance showcasing youth visual and performing art and media projects
  • Access to the World Savvy Monitor, an online current events resource

World Savvy works directly with youth to enhance their learning and provides the following resources:

  • Creative customized Workshops that focus on the global theme
  • Fieldtrips to local arts institutions and communities
  • One Saturday Jam Session for all participating youth to create and learn with adult artists and media professionals
  • The Global Youth Media and Arts Festival - a professional public exhibition and performance showcase for all participating youth
