Fall 2013 Professional Development
San Francisco - NYC - Minneapolis - St.Paul
Join World Savvy as we explore the theme of Population & Progress from a local to a global level including the political, environmental, economic, social and cultural dimensions of population and progress. These professional development workshops will model a variety of interactive teaching and learning strategies to engage diverse students in an examination of the connections between population, growth, and progress as well as issues ranging from global health to immigration, employment to innovation.
Exploring Global Competencies Through the Lens of Population and Progress
This one-day workshop is designed for educators to deepen and broaden their understanding of global competencies and how to foster these competencies in students. This year’s theme, Population and Progress, provides an opportunity to engage your students in rich, authentic learning experiences around significant global issues and concepts. Through in-depth discussions and learning experiences with colleagues from around your community, you will gain further insights into how to apply global competencies in your classroom and implement the World Savvy Classrooms program through either the media and arts pathway or the challenge competition pathway.
Developing Global Competency in the World Savvy Classroom

While continuing to explore this year’s theme of Population and Progress, you will gain a deeper understanding of how to help students develop their global competency. Participants will exchange ideas and insights as you share your initial project plans and have an opportunity to fully develop your plans for implementing the World Savvy Classrooms program through either the media and arts pathway or the challenge competition pathway.
