Volunteer - Committees & Advisory Groups
Finance Committee
The Finance Committee oversees and provides advice regarding World Savvy's annual organizational budget.
Responsibilities: Preparing and/or approving an annual organizational budget, overseeing with the treasurer the accounting and banking functions of the organization, and arranging for a certified audit of the organization's accounts.
Time Commitment: 3 hours monthly, 5+ hours at fiscal year end
Current Members include:
- Hansoo Lee is a member of World Savvy's Board of Directors and works as a Financial Analyst for walmart.com.
- Jayshree Miller is a Senior Financial Analyst with McKesson Corporation.
Program Development Working Group
This committee helps World Savvy staff design, develop and implement the content of its programs and services.
Responsibilities: Participate in monthly conference calls to obtain information about the organization's programs, give input and advice to program staff and make regular reports to the Board of directors about these activities.
Time Commitment: Monthly conference call for about 1-2 hours
Current Members include:
- Amy Benedicty is the Director of the Bay Area Global Education Program.
- Anna Bolla has taught for over 30 years and recently retired from her position as Social Studies Department Chair at Abraham Lincoln High School in San Francisco.
- Cate Biggs has a background in teaching and has her own independent consulting company called Cate Biggs: Consulting in Global Education.
- Diane Hart is a member of the National Council for the Social Studies Board and is also a social studies writer and consultant.
- Joseph Curran is the Director of Implementation at Achieve3000, an educational technology company that delivers differentiated instruction for reading comprehension and technology skills via the internet.
- Katy Foster is the Vice Principal at Burton High School in San Francisco.
- Steve Reimann is a senior fellow at Management Sciences for Health.
Global Youth Media & Arts Program Advisory Group
The Global Youth Media and Arts Program is designed to enrich media and arts curricula with global content. Members of this group help us design and implement this youth arts program, provide support for participating youth, and attend the Jam Session.
Responsibilities: The Global Youth Media & Arts Program is a program designed to enrich media and arts curricula with global content. As such, we are looking for a group of dedicated individuals to help us design and implement this youth arts program, provide support for participating youth, attend jam sessions, etc.
Time Commitment: Attend 3 meetings May-December.
Current Members include:
- Meheriar Hasan is Executive Vice President in the Consumer Credit Group of Wells Fargo Bank.
- Mark Sanchez is President of the San Francisco Board of Education.
- Désirée Pointer Mace is an Assistant Professor of Education at Alverno College.
