Thank You - We raised nearly $70,000!

World Savvy's 6th Annual Fall Fundraiser & Auction was held on Thursday, November 6 and the Hotel Kabuki in San Francisco's Japantown. Over 150 guests come together to enjoy delicious food, bid on one-of-a-kind auction items and be a part of a brighter future for our young people.

The dinner program included a welcome by Board Member, Jennifer McClanahan, the screening of a new video about the Global Youth Media and Arts Program, an inspirational speech by Executive Director, Dana Curran, moving presentations by three World Affairs Challenge participants and an exciting live auction with Durwood Zedd.

MAP VideoWorld Affairs Challenge (WAC) participant, Alex St. Clair shared her experiences with guests:
I would recommend the WAC for several reasons. The first being that I strongly believe it is a program that has found a way to engage young students in learning about international affairs. I know that when I first did the WAC I was in seventh grade and I knew nothing about current events, especially ones happening outside of our country. Now as a senior in high school international current events play a large part of my daily life. Reading the news and keeping up on current affairs is important to me and I plan to major in international relations in college next year. International affairs are of growing importance in our world and I think every student should have the opportunity to do a project such as the WAC so they can start associating International affairs as not only an important, but interesting and fun thing to learn about.

One important and practical thing that doing the WAC has taught me is researching skills. I have learned a lot about biases in the media and how important it is to double or triple check your sources when doing research. Even more importantly, I have learned about how even if something happens on the other side of the planet, it can and most likely will effect me. Before doing this project I honestly never realized how globalized our world is and how much different countries economies are intertwined with each other. This is the reason I want to major in international relations in college. Our world could not continue to function as it does now without support from other countries and I think that we could communicate and continue to try and work better together. I attribute all of these realizations and personal epiphanies to doing the WAC.
