7th Annual World Savvy Gala
Bringing together the World Savvy community to raise funds and awareness for global education.
Thank you to everyone who came to the 7th Annual Gala and supported World Savvy’s students and teachers. The event was held on Thursday, September 24 at the Hotel Kabuki in San Francisco’s Japantown. We had an amazing night and raised over $140,000!
- Roxana De La O Cortez, a student from Impact Academy who participated in the Global Youth Media and Arts Program, spoke about her experience learning about the program’s theme of Immigration and Identity.
- Joel Key, Roxana’s teacher at Impact Academy shared his experience being a teacher in the Global Youth Media and Arts Program, and stressed the importance and quality of professional development offered by World Savvy.
- Katy Foster, Assistant Principal at Sir Francis Drake High School, spoke about the depth of World Savvy’s programs and their relevance to standards.
- Skadden was presented with the inaugural Champion for Global Education Award for their pro bono support since the founding of World Savvy in 2002.
- Durwood Zedd led an amazing live auction – top sellers included a week stay at the Caribbean Club, World Savvy Monitor Salon, San Francisco VIP Zoo Tour, a stay at the Carneros Inn, a week stay in Croatia and a Sustainable Farm Tour.
- Mr. Stuart Haldan generously donated $15,000 to World Savvy
- An Anonymous donor pledged a $30,000 contribution to start a scholarship fund so that more students and teachers from under-resourced schools can participate in World Savvy programs.
- In total, the event raised over $140,0000! We thank everyone who contributed and participated. This was an amazing evening and we hope to see you next year!
