Photo Friday: Meet the Farmers

Meet the farmers from Angel Family Farm, located in Goshen, NY, just 60 miles from New York City. When the Angel family, originally from Puebla Mexico, first began their small, organic farm, it couldn’t even sustain them. They lived in their car and bathed at a local gas station when family members took turns visiting and working their 14 acre plot from their home in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Seven years later and without the addition of chemical pesticides or GMO’s, they have a small trailer, a thriving practice and a growing customer base both in Goshen and at the many New York City Farmers Markets where they bring their produce every week. This includes most notably, the Williamsburg Farmers Market, right outside the World Savvy NYC office, where I had the fortune to meet them, and where the Mexican herbs and vegetables they grow, so rare in the United States, are sustaining their paisanos in the Mexican community here. To the residents of Brooklyn, these family farmers are truly an angel come down from above – 60 miles above.
