Our Impact - The Need for Global Literacy

The increasing diversity of the Bay Area community is testimony to the need for greater global awareness. In 2002, almost 40% of the population of San Francisco County was born outside the U.S., largely in Asia and Latin America. This diversity lends itself perfectly to global education programs, which can build on the various experience and interests of youth from around the world. Recent studies point out the great need to make education more relevant to the lives and cultures of students (Education Week, Report Examines Motivation Among Students, December 2003). World Savvy incorporates contemporary global issues into educational programs to achieve just that.
